Another Week, Another Loss for the Lions
The Detroit Lions entered week 8 of the NFL season with a winless record and were facing the 5-2 Washington Redskins. Going into the game, Detroit was watching their hopes at a possible playoff spot almost officially die if they could not find a win this week. After the first half of the game the Lions were in good shape leading the Redskins 10-6 and were looking to hold off Washington in the second half. However after a turn of events, the Redskins found themselves in front 16-10 after the 3rd quarter of play. In the final quarter of play, Detroit made an attempt to regain the lead but it wasn’t enough. The Lions fell to the Redskins by the final score of 25-17.

With another loss, the Lions find themselves almost completely out of the playoff picture with a 0-7 record. However, the Lions are not the only team with such misfortunes, the Cincinnati Bengals lost again this week pushing their season record to 0-8. Both of these two winless teams sill search for answers in the coming weeks and try to muster up a miracle and make the wild card playoff spot.

Oregon State Takes Down #1 Ranked USC

By Daniel Crocker

On Thursday September 25, 2008, USC was matched-up against the small football college Oregon State. The USC Trojans came into the game ranked number 1 in the country, facing the unranked Oregon State Beavers. Being heavily favored to win by twenty points, the Trojans were thought to dominate on both sides of the football against Oregon. Although they were projected to lose by a landslide, the Beavers came out firing on all cylinders scoring 14 points in the first half and holding the Trojans scoreless.

As the third quarter came to a close the Beavers found themselves behind, 21-14 and it looked as if the Trojans would escape this game by the skin of their teeth. But after multiple turnovers and forced punts, the Beavers were not down for the count. They scored 13 unanswered points and defeated the undefeated, number 1 ranked, USC Trojans, by a score of 27-21. Although many may have not seen this large upset coming, USC has been ranked and then lost to an unranked college in the 2007-2008 season. After such a defeat, the Trojans can be sure they will not hold their top spot over the rest of the nation's football teams.

With a 3 wins and 0 loses record when facing them at home and the Cubs having home field advantage for the playoffs, the Cubs were heavily favored to advance to the World Series.
As the playoffs began, the Cubs were surprised after the Dodgers posted 7 runs versus the Cubs two in game one. The Cubs followed up with another loss in game two by a score of 10 to 3 and again in game 3 by a score of 3-1. The Dodgers completed this sweep and kept the curse of the billy goat alive.
