What are the advantages/disadvantages of freelancing?

The advantages of being a freelancer is that you are your own boss and you do not have to answer to anyone. You also get as many breaks as you want to have, when ever you want to have them. You also do not have a set amount of personal days, or vaction days. Some disadvantages are that you are very seldomly paid . Another is that you may hit a rut where magazine companies may not want your story in thier magazine.

How does your occupation/ position/ or status affect your potential opportunities or career direction?

The position affects your potential opportunities or career direction because if you start out with a not so good job, it does not have a great influence when you are looking for a better job later on. With freelancing, if you are good at it, then it will make a positive influence on future opportunities. However, if you are mediocre, then you will not have a high influence on other companies that you are looking to work for.

How does the frequency or infrequency of payment from freelancing affect the budget of a writer?

Since the freelancing writer gets paid seldomly, they may have a tight budget, depending on how much they are paid. It also depends on how much they are paid, when they do get paid. Because they don't get a pay check every or every other week, they have to balance out how much they can spend. It is tough because they don't know how much and when they are going to get paid.

4.) How do flexibility, organization, and discipline affect a freelancer’s capacity to research, generate and produce quality work?

Flexibility, organization and discipline affect a freelancers ability to reaseach and produce quality work because the writer has to be flexable in his work schedule for changes and different topics to write about. They have to be disciplined because they have to work hard to meet deadlines for different pieces of work.

5.) How does one’s expertise or ignorance affect a freelancer’s choice of assignment?

One's expertise or ignorance affect their choice of assignment because if they know alot about a subject, then they will be able to excel in that subject. The less they know about a subject, the less likely they are to write on that subject.

6.) Should you say no to an assignment? Why or When (at what point)?

A writer should say no to an assignment when he does not have much knowledge on the subject given to him. This is because the less they know about a subject, the more likely the work is to come out poorly. This would benifit both sides if they don't choose to write about a subject.
